A soccer referee was hit in the back by a water bottle after the boys Class 2A sectional final at Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn on Friday, Oct. 30.

Official Hanah Shehaiber was leaving the field with other referees when a Juarez supporter threw a full water bottle that struck her, injuring her, the Daily Herald first reported. No. 7-seeded Glenbard South had just upset top-seeded Juarez 3-1 in the sectional final.

Glenbard South athletic director Tim Carlson was escorting the officials to a staging area near the concession stand when the incident occurred. Carlson said the incident did not involve anyone from Glenbard South, only Juarez players and fans, according to the Daily Herald.

Video circulating on Twitter and YouTube shows the moment the bottle was thrown.

Shehaiber, who has refereed multiple state finals, said she filed a report with the DuPage County Sheriff's Department, the Daily Herald reported.

Mike Moore, president of the United Suburban Soccer Officials Association, condemned the incident after seeing the video. Moore called it "unprovoked, unsportsmanlike and was a downright assault," according to the Daily Herald.
