Scout troops in Glen Ellyn can claim a downtown storefront window to paint with Halloween and fall scenes starting Thursday, Oct. 1.

The annual tradition, organized by the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce, gives local troops a week to transform business windows into seasonal displays. Painting runs from Sunday, Oct. 4, through Sunday, Oct. 11.

Each troop gets one window. Spots are first-come, first-served, according to the Chamber, so troop leaders should sign up early once registration opens online.

After selecting a window, each troop contacts the business directly to schedule a convenient painting time. The Chamber's signup page lists available storefronts once registration goes live.

The painted windows stay up through the Glen Ellyn Halloween Festival and Parade on Saturday, Oct. 24. The Chamber invites festival-goers to walk through downtown and view the Scout artwork along the parade route.

The parade, led by the Glenbard West Drumline, steps off at 9:45 a.m. from Main and Crescent, according to Patch. Halloween-themed crafts and a costume contest run from 10 a.m. to noon, and local businesses will hand out candy.

Troop leaders can find the signup page on the Chamber's website when registration opens Oct. 1.
