College of DuPage will open its Glen Ellyn campus to the public on Wednesday, Oct. 7, for a free daylong summit on artificial intelligence literacy.
The AI Literacy Summit runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000, at 425 Fawell Blvd. No prior AI experience is required. The event targets students, parents, educators and working professionals, according to the college. Space is limited, and an RSVP is required.
Summit sessions will focus on responsible use, critical evaluation and human oversight of AI tools.
Speakers and sessions
Three named sessions anchor the day: "ChatGPT for Work," focused on using AI in professional settings; "ChatGPT for Parents," exploring how AI shapes learning and family life; and "Building with ChatGPT," aimed at participants ready to move beyond the basics.
Headlining the event are COD President Dr. Muddassir Siddiqi, Lenovo Chief Technology and Innovation Strategist Hernán Londoño and Intel Director of Strategic Initiatives David Minnar.
"Artificial intelligence increasingly shapes how we learn, work and make decisions," Siddiqi said in the college's announcement. "We want people to know how to use these tools while also questioning their outputs, verifying information and applying independent judgment. Meaningful AI literacy combines practical skills with ethical awareness and critical thinking."
Broader AI literacy program
The summit is part of a new AI Literacy program COD developed in partnership with Intel. The program offers free, self-paced online courses covering responsible AI, generative AI, accessibility and digital trust. Participants can earn a digital badge for each completed course.
The courses are open to anyone, not just summit attendees. According to COD's announcement, the program teaches users to assess AI-generated information, spot inaccuracies and bias, protect sensitive data and judge when human oversight is needed.
COD's push into AI education has been building. The Board of Trustees approved an Artificial Intelligence Associate of Applied Science degree at its April 24, 2025, meeting, building on an existing machine learning certificate, according to board minutes.
