Glen Ellyn residents still clearing storm debris from the July 27 tornado will have to wait nearly a month for the next Branch & Brush collection. No extra pickups are planned.
The village confirmed Monday, Aug. 10, that the emergency collection it ran the week of Aug. 3 was the only August pickup, and no additional round will follow. Crews were still working through the backlog as of Monday due to the sheer volume of downed wood across town.
The village posted the reminder on X, noting that collection from the emergency pickup remained underway because of the large volume and that the next scheduled round begins Sept. 7 depending on area.
The village announced the accelerated pickup on its Instagram account July 31, telling residents to have all material at the curb by 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, and warning that the emergency collection would be the only one for August. The move came after the EF-0 tornado that struck the evening of July 27 snapped limbs and toppled trees across Glen Ellyn, generating far more debris than a typical summer month.
As we reported in early August, the National Weather Service confirmed the tornado downed century-old trees on Forest Avenue and knocked out power to thousands across DuPage County. Lombard crews were still clearing downed trees from Grace Street and Washington Boulevard as of Aug. 7.
Upcoming pickup calendar
The September and October Branch & Brush dates, according to the village's official schedule:
- Sept. 7–10: Hill Avenue and north
- Sept. 14–17: South of Hill Avenue
- Oct. 12–15: Hill Avenue and north
- Oct. 19–22: South of Hill Avenue
Material must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on the Monday of the collection week. The program runs once a month, May through October.
