Lombard Public Works crews are still hauling away downed trees and broken limbs nearly two weeks after severe storms tore through the village on July 27, toppling trees on Grace Street south of Harrison Road and snapping limbs near Washington Boulevard, according to The Lombardian.

The village's storm cleanup alert remained active on its website as of Friday, Aug. 7, and the Forestry Division has been collecting debris from parkway trees across Lombard since the day the storms hit. In a July 28 update, the village said crews had been working across the community to clear storm debris from parkway trees and public areas.

The same storm system knocked out power to nearly 4,750 Lombard customers, as we reported Aug. 4 when the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado struck neighboring Glen Ellyn.

Private tree debris collected north of Roosevelt Road

Under Village Board policy, Lombard is also picking up storm-damaged debris from private trees for properties north of Roosevelt Road. The village posted the expanded collection policy on X on July 28, the day after the storms.

On Aug. 4, the Village of Lombard said on X that Public Works crews were continuing cleanup and that the village was providing additional resources to assist residents with storm recovery.

The village's July 28 notice projected the collection effort would last several days and stretch into the following week, but the program has run well beyond that initial estimate. No updated end date has been announced.

How to report damage

Residents can report parkway tree damage, fallen limbs and other non-emergency issues on village property through the SeeClickFix app or online at villageoflombard.org/seeclickfix.

Anyone who spots a downed power line should stay away and call ComEd at 1-800-334-7661. If the line poses an immediate hazard, call 911.
