Glen Ellyn and Lombard voters will decide four contested DuPage County races when polls open Tuesday, Nov. 3. The ballot includes sheriff, county board chair, clerk and treasurer.

Polls close at 7 p.m. Voters who still need to register can do so at their polling place on Election Day. Same-day registration requires two forms of identification, with at least one showing a current address, according to Glen Ellyn election information published by Patch.

Here is what is on the ballot.

Sheriff

DuPage County will get a new sheriff no matter the outcome. Republican James Mendrick did not seek a third term. Democrat Peter Coolidge faces Republican Sean Noonan.

Coolidge retired from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office in February 2024 after 28 years of service, according to the DuPage Policy Journal. He worked in all three bureaus: Corrections, Law Enforcement and Courthouse Administration. He is seeking to become the first Democrat elected DuPage County sheriff since 1839, according to the same report.

Noonan is a lifelong DuPage County resident and a Glenbard North High School graduate, according to his campaign website. He has been endorsed by DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin, according to the campaign's endorsements page.

County Board Chair

Incumbent Deb Conroy, a Democrat elected in 2022, faces Republican Gary Grasso. Conroy became the county board's first female chair when she took office, according to Patch. She is also the first Democrat to hold the position in more than 75 years, according to her Wikipedia entry. On her county biography, she has pointed to opening the county's first Crisis Recovery Center and a AAA bond rating upgrade during her tenure.

Grasso has served as mayor of Burr Ridge. In a 2022 WTTW voters guide, he said Burr Ridge holds the highest possible bond rating for a municipality and is debt-free. He has said the village is likely to abate its portion of property taxes entirely, according to a Patch report on his record.

County Clerk

This race features two new candidates. Incumbent Jean Kaczmarek lost her bid for a third term in the Democratic primary, the Chicago Tribune reported in October. Democrat Paula Deacon Garcia, a Lisle resident and incumbent county board member, faces Republican Patricia Kladis-Schiappa, an attorney from Burr Ridge.

Both candidates cited a yearslong dispute between the clerk's office and the county board as a reason they decided to run, the Tribune reported. Both said they would seek a financial audit of the clerk's office and end a lawsuit in which the clerk challenged the board's authority over some fiscal matters.

County Treasurer

Incumbent Republican Gwen Henry, who has held the office since 2006 according to IMRF records, faces Democrat Yeena Yoo. Henry previously worked as a principal at Dugan & Lopatka, Certified Public Accountants, according to her county biography.
