Two recent Glenbard North High School graduates were among the eight victims of a mass shooting near Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) in Bloomington, Glenbard High School District 87 officials said.

A 19-year-old woman was killed and seven others were injured when shots were fired at about 1:23 a.m. Nov. 1 in the 100 block of East Division Street, according to NBC Chicago. The shooting happened during a party at a residence near the IWU campus, WGLT reported.

The two Glenbard North graduates had finished school earlier in 2026, NBC Chicago reported. Their names had not been released as of Nov. 1. The McLean County Coroner's Office was withholding the deceased victim's identity pending family notification, according to 25 News Now.

District 87 issued a statement, saying in part, according to NBC Chicago: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting in Bloomington this weekend and the impact it has had on members of our community … We know this news will be especially difficult for the teachers, staff, and classmates who knew them …"

Police said officers were handling a call several blocks away when they heard gunshots. The first responding officers arrived within one minute and began providing care to the most critically injured victims, according to WGLT.

One woman was transported to a regional trauma center in critical condition. Police said by the evening of Nov. 1 that she was showing signs of improvement. Six other victims sustained injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Two IWU students were among those with non-life-threatening injuries, university officials said. One Illinois State University student was also injured, treated and released from the hospital. A Quincy University student was also among those shot, with injuries Quincy President Brian McGee described as "serious" in a statement, as reported by WGLT.

No arrests had been made.

Bloomington police said the shooting appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Bloomington Police spokesperson Bryce Janssen asked the public for help, including home security footage, cellphone photos or videos and dash camera recordings.

Bloomington police scheduled a press conference for 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2. Anyone with information can contact Detective Pedro Diaz at 309-434-2532.
