Lombard's Board of Fire and Police Commissioners approved two measures shaping the village's public safety ranks at a special meeting Friday, Oct. 30.
The board voted to finalize a Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List and to amend its rules governing how entry-level police officers are hired. Both motions carried with votes from the two commissioners present, Vice Chairman Kenneth Florey and Secretary Kyle Dolan.
The meeting convened at 8:00 a.m. in the Village of Lombard Board Room at 255 East Wilson Ave. and adjourned at 8:13 a.m., according to meeting minutes posted by the village.
The lieutenant eligibility list had moved through a two-step process. The board first approved an Initial Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List at an Oct. 13 special meeting, according to minutes from that session. The Oct. 30 agenda assigned the final list item to Fire Deputy Chief Nathan Gac.
The list determines which firefighters are eligible for promotion to lieutenant within the Lombard Fire Department. The names and rankings on the list were not included in the minutes or agenda.
The vote comes weeks after Fire Chief Rick Sander's retirement. Sander's last day was Oct. 8, and the village said it would conduct a recruitment process for his replacement, The Lombardian reported in early October.
The agenda assigned the second item, a proposal to amend the board's rules for hiring entry-level police officers, to Police Chief Joe Grage. The minutes and agenda do not describe what the amendment changes, and the motion carried without recorded discussion.
Chairman Thomas Rachubinski, who was present at the Oct. 13 meeting, was not listed among those in attendance Oct. 30. The minutes do not note a reason for his absence.
Also present at the meeting were Police Administrative Coordinator Jennifer Wetzel and Police Administrative Secretary Andrea Diorio.
The board's next meeting date was not listed in the minutes.
