Know a Lombard neighbor who spends their retirement volunteering, mentoring or pitching in around the community? The village wants to hear about them.

The Village of Lombard opened nominations for its 21st Annual Senior Man and Woman of the Year Awards on Wednesday, Aug. 19, according to a village announcement. The program honors residents 65 and older who have made a difference through volunteerism and community service.

"We all know people in our community who generously give their time and energy to help others," said trustee Jessie Hammersmith, chair of the Community Relations Committee. "This is a simple way to recognize a deserving senior and let them know that their contributions to Lombard are seen and appreciated."

How to nominate

Nominations must include a statement of 50 words or fewer explaining why the person deserves recognition, along with a short biography. The nominee must be at least 65 years old and live within Lombard's incorporated limits.

Submit by mail to Village of Lombard, Attn: Senior of the Year, 255 E. Wilson Ave., Lombard, IL 60148, or by email to [email protected].

The deadline is 4:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14.

What happens next

The Community Relations Committee will choose the recipients on Monday, Sept. 21. All nominees will be notified, and the winners will be announced publicly. The honorees will also be invited to ride in the 2027 Lilac Parade, Lombard's annual spring procession that travels north on Main Street each May.

According to village records, Jim and Carol Wixon were named the 2025 Senior Man and Woman of the Year and recognized at the 19th Annual Lombard Senior Fair on Oct. 1, 2025, at the Madison Meadow Athletic Center.
