The Lombard Fire Department has a new lieutenant and three new firefighter/paramedics after a swearing-in ceremony at Village Hall on Thursday, Aug. 20.

Klein was promoted to lieutenant, while Yang, Moran and Papay joined the department as firefighter/paramedics, the village announced on X on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The village identified all four by last name only in its announcement.

Village Clerk Ranya Elkhatib administered the oath of office at the ceremony, which took place at Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave., according to a village newsflash.

The four join a department that has been running at a demanding pace. In a May 19 post during National EMS Week, the village reported that Lombard firefighters responded to more than 8,200 calls in 2025, including more than 6,200 emergency medical runs. The three new firefighter/paramedics will step directly into that EMS workload, which accounts for roughly three-quarters of the department's total call volume.

The department operates under Fire Chief Rick Sander and Deputy Fire Chief Nathan Gac, running two stations: Station 45 at 50 E. St. Charles Road and Station 44 at 2020 S. Highland Ave. Klein's prior rank before the promotion was not specified in the village's announcement.

The village posted news of the ceremony five days after it took place. No additional details about the new members' backgrounds or previous assignments were included.
