Glenbard South's boys soccer team won its first regional championship in nine years, beating Timothy Christian 1-0 in the Class 2A regional final Friday, Oct. 23, in Elmhurst.

The seventh-seeded Raiders knocked off the second-seeded Trojans on their home field to claim the program's first regional title since 2017, according to Shaw Local's Suburban Life sports roundup. The win sends Glenbard South into the Class 2A sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Raider Stadium in Glen Ellyn, the school announced on social media.

The Raiders scored the game's only goal and held the Trojans scoreless at the Timothy Christian Regional site, according to MaxPreps. No goal scorer was identified in available reports.

The upset capped a two-game postseason run through the Timothy Christian Regional bracket. In the semifinal Tuesday, Oct. 20, Glenbard South beat Kennedy 4-1 at the same site, according to Shaw Local's earlier roundup. Timothy Christian reached the final after beating Garcia 9-0 in the other semifinal that day.

The seeding gap made the result notable. Timothy Christian entered as the No. 2 seed and hosted the regional. Glenbard South, seeded seventh, won both of its games on the Trojans' field.

The sectional semifinal opponent for Glenbard South has not been announced. The Raiders host the Oct. 27 game at Raider Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
