Glenbard South football has been in preseason practice since Wednesday, Aug. 5, and the rest of the fall lineup, including cross country, soccer, volleyball and golf, hit the field and courts Monday, Aug. 10, according to the Glenbard South Athletics department. All of it is happening before classes even start. Glenbard District 87 opens the school year Wednesday, Aug. 12.
The athletic department posted its first weekly schedule of the 2026-27 year on Sunday, Aug. 9, welcoming athletes back and expressing excitement for the new school year.
New gym, new season
Athletes returning to Raider Gym will find a facility that looks nothing like last year's. The school completed a two-summer renovation that included new bleachers, new lighting and a brand-new floor, unveiled Tuesday, Aug. 4. Volleyball and basketball players will be the first to compete on the new surface when the home schedule begins.
Football opens Aug. 21 against Bremen
The Raiders host Bremen (Midlothian) on Friday, Aug. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in their season opener. That date is one week earlier than in past years because of the IHSA's expanded playoff format, which shifted the statewide dead week to the week of July 4 instead of the week before practice, according to Shaw Local.
After the home opener, Glenbard South travels to Lake Park (Roselle) on Friday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m., then opens Upstate 8 Conference play at Ridgewood (Norridge) on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m.
Momentum from 2025-26
The Raiders enter the new year riding strong results from last season. The girls basketball team went 29-5 and won its fourth consecutive Upstate 8 East Division title before reaching the Super-Sectional for the third time in school history. Pole vaulter Kyle Quaid-Bowman placed third at the IHSA state track and field championships under head coach Doug Gorski. In May, the department named Callie Hardtke and Henry Riley its 2026 Amy Svoboda Raider Athletes of the Year.

Student-athletes must be registered in PowerSchool and have an updated physical on file before participating. Details are available on the Glenbard South athletic website.
The Raiders' next key date: Friday, Aug. 21, when the football team takes the field under the lights for the first time this season.
