Glenbard South heads to unbeaten Antioch on Friday for the biggest test of its playoff run.
The No. 17 Raiders (6-4) face the No. 1 Sequoits (9-0) in a Class 5A first-round game at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, according to the IHSA playoff bracket. Glenbard South earned the trip by beating Chicago's Payton 40-7 in the opening round.
Tickets are $6 plus a fee through GoFan or $8 cash at the gate, according to a Raiders Football social media post.
The matchup pits a Glen Ellyn program riding momentum against a team that hasn't lost all year. Antioch, the top seed in the Class 5A north bracket, went 9-0 in the regular season and earned a first-round bye.
Glenbard South is making its 15th straight playoff appearance, Shaw Local reported in its playoff preview. The Raiders have won just two playoff games since 2017, in 2021 and 2023, and haven't advanced past the second round since 2009.
The 40-7 rout of Payton was a sharp turnaround. The Raiders entered the postseason on a two-game losing streak, according to Shaw Local's Class 5A analysis. Glenbard South was 0-3 against teams with winning records heading into the playoffs, including losses to West Aurora and Riverside-Brookfield to close the regular season.
Senior quarterback Tommy Bauman runs the offense, with junior Anthony Baldauf as his top receiving target. Junior Elijah Donahue is a two-way standout who Shaw Local described as dangerous with the ball in his hands. Bauman's touchdown pass to Baldauf accounted for the Raiders' only score in a 25-7 Week 9 loss to Riverside-Brookfield, according to Shaw Local's preview.
The challenge Friday is clear. Antioch ran through its regular season without a loss and holds the bracket's top seed. Glenbard South's five wins came against opponents with losing records, Shaw Local noted, while each of the Raiders' four losses came against teams above .500.
Friday's winner advances in the Class 5A north bracket. The state championship game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28, at Hancock Stadium in Normal.
Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Antioch.
