Glenbard North and Glenbard East both won convincingly in the opening round of the Class 7A playoffs on Oct. 23, and now face tougher second-round matchups Friday, Oct. 30, with 7 p.m. kickoffs.

The No. 38-seeded Panthers (4-6) travel to No. 6 Jacobs (8-1). The No. 17-seeded Rams (7-3) visit No. 16 Kenwood (6-3) in Chicago.

Kramer, Gatses carry Glenbard North

Junior quarterback Logan Kramer's dual-threat performance carried Glenbard North to a 34-20 win at Hoffman Estates. The Daily Herald's Kevin Schmit ranked Kramer fifth among the area's top opening-round performers, crediting him with 165 passing yards, two touchdowns and 114 rushing yards on 18 carries. The Chicago Tribune put his totals at 157 passing yards and 117 rushing yards.

The play that broke the game open was a 50-yard touchdown pass to senior Angelo Gatses in the third quarter, giving the Panthers the lead for good at 27-20. Gatses finished with four touchdowns and 106 rushing yards, according to the Tribune.

"I knew we were going to win this game," Kramer told the Tribune after the win. "We were very prepared."

Coach Justin Kerwin drew up the go-ahead throwback pass during a timeout. Gatses said it was a play the team had never run before, the Tribune reported. After the defense forced a stop, Gatses sealed the win with a four-yard scoring run with 6:16 left.

The Panthers have now won their first playoff game in four straight appearances, according to the Daily Herald. Friday's opponent is a different caliber. Jacobs finished 8-1, its only loss to undefeated Huntley in Week 6, according to Shaw Local. Junior quarterback Austin Stennett and linebacker Jack Coates lead the Golden Eagles, who are in the playoffs for a sixth straight season under coach Brian Zimmerman.

The Tribune's bracket analysis predicted Jacobs "will have its hands full against Glenbard North."

Pohlman powers Glenbard East past Bartlett

Sophomore quarterback Carter Pohlman put together one of the area's best opening-round stat lines, completing 17 of 22 passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns in Glenbard East's 42-14 rout of Bartlett.

Pohlman threw three of those touchdown passes in the first half as the Rams built a 21-7 halftime lead. His scoring strike to Malachi Miller with 22 seconds left before the break stretched the advantage. His four TD throws went to Diamond Chew twice, Miller and Mason Wright, according to Shaw Local.

Schmit ranked Pohlman fourth among the area's top performers for the round.

The Rams' second-round trip to Kenwood drew attention from the Tribune's bracket analysis, which labeled it the Class 7A "game of the week." The Tribune noted Kenwood played No. 18 Morgan Park close in the city championship game, while Glenbard East overcame an 0-2 start to win six of its last seven games.

Both games kick off at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.
