Families across Glen Ellyn, Lombard, Carol Stream and Glendale Heights should mark their calendars: Glenbard Township High School District 87 opens the 2026-27 school year Wednesday, Aug. 12.

The start date was confirmed in Superintendent David Santee's report at the district's July 29 Board of Education meeting, which noted that online registration is underway at glenbard87.org/registration. All four high schools start the same day.

Key days off and breaks

The first long weekend arrives quickly. Students are off Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day, followed by Indigenous Peoples' Day on Monday, Oct. 12, and a no-school day Friday, Oct. 23.

November brings a four-day stretch away from classrooms: a Teachers' Institute day Monday, Nov. 2, then an e-learning day Tuesday, Nov. 3, for Election Day. Students will learn remotely that day rather than report in person. Thanksgiving recess runs Wednesday, Nov. 25, through Friday, Nov. 27.

Winter break spans Monday, Dec. 21, through Monday, Jan. 4, 2027, with classes resuming Tuesday, Jan. 5. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 18) and Presidents' Day (Monday, Feb. 15) are also no-school days.

Spring semester highlights

Spring break runs Monday, March 29, through Sunday, April 4, 2027, with school resuming Monday, April 5. A half-day Institute Day falls on Thursday, May 7.

The tentative last day of school is Monday, May 24, 2027. That date could shift if emergency days are used during the year. The district has reserved May 25-28, 2027, and Tuesday, June 1, 2027, as make-up days if needed.

E-learning program renewed

At the same July 29 meeting, the board renewed District 87's e-learning program for another three years. The program, in place since 2020, allows up to five hours of staff-led remote instruction on emergency days, such as severe winter weather, instead of tacking make-up days onto the end of the calendar.
