Glen Ellyn's library search committee meets publicly with its hired recruiting firm Monday, Aug. 31, to advance the executive director hiring process.

Bradbury Miller Associates, a library-focused executive search firm based in Canton, Ohio, will sit down with the Executive Director Search Committee at 7 p.m. in the Board Room on the library's third floor. The sole agenda item is discussing the search process, according to the special meeting agenda posted by the library.

The board approved a $31,000 contract with Bradbury Miller Associates by unanimous roll call vote at its July 20 regular meeting. Secretary Richard Jones made the motion, and all seven trustees voted in favor: President Karen Volk, Vice President Kathy Slovick, Treasurer Andrew Savikas, Jones, Trustee Chris Crawford, Trustee Kay Fillingham and Trustee Beth Murin.

The search began after Director Dawn Bussey submitted her notice of retirement at the May 18 board meeting. The board accepted it unanimously, and four trustees volunteered for the search committee: Volk, Crawford, Savikas and Murin.

That committee solicited proposals from five firms in early June: Organizational Architecture, Bradbury Miller Associates, Stacks Consulting Group, Isaacson Miller and Kittleman and Associates. Three firms responded. The committee reviewed those proposals at its July 6 meeting and recommended Bradbury Miller Associates to the full board. The firm focuses exclusively on leadership recruitment for libraries and mission-driven organizations, according to its website.

The committee outlined priorities for the next director at its June 1 meeting, including cultivating partnerships with staff, the library's Foundation and Friends groups, and the community. Recruiting and developing staff and maintaining the building and finances also ranked among the stated goals, according to meeting minutes. The committee discussed giving staff, the Foundation and Friends groups input in the search and interview process.

The Aug. 31 meeting is open to the public.

The library has not posted a date for its next regular board meeting. Its annual retreat is scheduled for Oct. 25 from 1 to 4 p.m.
