The Glen Ellyn Public Library Board of Trustees will vote Monday, Aug. 17, on a $200,000 transfer into the library's Building, Equipment and Maintenance Fund, bolstering a capital reserve tied to a $670,000 third-floor renovation project the board took up in July.

The board meets at 7 p.m. in the third-floor board room at 400 Duane St. The meeting is open to the public and includes a comment period.

The BEM Fund (formally designated Fund 50) is the library's dedicated reserve for building upkeep and equipment replacement. The board's FY2026 budget, adopted Sept. 15, 2025, set the fund's spending authority at $500,000 for the year. The library's total budget across all funds is $6.3 million.

Under the library's fund balance policy, unassigned surplus has been transferred into the BEM Fund at year end since 2012. Past annual transfers have ranged from $410,000 to $480,000. The $200,000 transfer on Monday's agenda would be a mid-year addition; the agenda does not specify whether it is connected to the third-floor refresh or addresses a separate capital need.

Jury duty policy update

Trustees will also take a voice vote on an updated Jury Duty Policy governing how the library handles staff called for jury service. The agenda does not include the prior policy text or a summary of what changed.

Director search continues

The meeting agenda lists a report from the Ad-Hoc Director Search Committee. Executive Director Dawn Bussey announced her retirement at the May 18 board meeting, and the board unanimously accepted. President Karen Volk and trustees Chris Crawford, Andrew Savikas and Beth Murin volunteered for the search committee.

According to the July 20 meeting agenda, the board also voted on a $31,000 contract with Bradbury Miller Associates to conduct the search. Minutes from that meeting have not yet been posted.

Outreach presentation

Community Engagement Librarian Melissa Hilt and Outreach Librarian Joshua O'Shea are scheduled to present during audience participation. At the August 2025 board meeting, Hilt reported that "outreach efforts and community partnerships have reached more than 3,000 people" and that the library's four Little Free Library locations distribute more than 3,000 books annually.

The presentation follows the same format as last year's.
