A 2K Glow Run/Walk is joining the lineup at Glen Ellyn's Glow in the Park event on Friday, Sept. 11, giving families a new way to light up the night at Lake Ellyn Park.

The 1.25-mile race, open to ages 4 and up, features light-up color stations along the route and finishes with a glow party and live DJ. The Glen Ellyn Park District describes it as a first-time pairing with the annual Glow in the Park Lantern Walk, which benefits the neonatal intensive care unit at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital through a partnership with Charlie's Corner Foundation.

The run kicks off at 7:45 p.m., roughly 25 minutes after the illuminated lantern walk begins its loop around the lake at 7:20 p.m. Registration costs $30 for Glen Ellyn residents and $42 for non-residents through the park district's website.

The broader Glow in the Park evening runs 5 to 9 p.m., according to the park district, at Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Road. Admission to the main event is free. Pre-walk entertainment includes live music by Tres Moustache, face painting, a balloon artist, inflatables and food for purchase. Cash donations to Lurie Children's are encouraged.

Last year's lantern walk raised over $3,000 for the hospital's NICU, according to Patch.

Lantern kits, which include a paper lantern shade, LED light and carrying stick, are available for $15 at the Main Street Recreation Center through Friday, Sept. 4. Lanterns can also be decorated on-site for $10 (cash only, while supplies last). All kit sales benefit Lurie Children's, according to the Charlie's Corner Foundation.

Parking is available on streets surrounding the park, in the Glenbard West lot across from Duchon Field and in the Metra commuter lots in downtown Glen Ellyn.
