A fundraiser for the family of Giana Dettloff, the 19-year-old Glenbard North High School graduate killed in a Bloomington mass shooting, has raised more than $98,000.

The GoFundMe campaign, titled "Honoring Giana's Life and Legacy" and organized by Kristyn Lawrence, had collected $98,210 from about 1,200 donations as of Wednesday, Nov. 4. The campaign's goal is $115,000.

Funds will go toward funeral and memorial expenses, according to the page. Organizers also hope to establish a lasting memorial in Dettloff's honor.

As we reported Nov. 2, Dettloff was one of nine people shot at a Halloween party near the Illinois Wesleyan University campus in Bloomington early Sunday, Nov. 1. She was the only person killed.

Dettloff, originally from Carol Stream, was a Class of 2026 Glenbard North graduate and a cheerleader at North Central College in Naperville, NBC Chicago reported. She had been visiting a friend when the shooting occurred at about 1:23 a.m. in the 100 block of East Division Street, police said, according to NBC Chicago.

An 18-year-old female from Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream was also among the eight people wounded, according to NBC Chicago. She was last listed in stable condition. Police have not publicly identified her.

District 87 statement

Glenbard High School District 87 Superintendent Jessica Santee described the shooting as "tragic" in a statement and said the district was "deeply saddened" by its impact on the community, NBC Chicago reported.

"Far too many young lives have been impacted by senseless shootings," the statement read in part. "It is heartbreaking that our communities continue to face tragedies like this."

Glenbard North Principal John Mensik called Dettloff a wonderful student, according to the Chicago Tribune.

"She had a contagious smile, brightened up every classroom that she was in," Mensik said.

At Glenbard North, Dettloff had been a cheerleader and a member of several clubs, the Tribune reported. She also participated in the PE peer leader program, which pairs general education students with students who have special needs or disabilities.

Dettloff family spokesman Robert Vrankovich recalled her as a positive person who brought others together, the Tribune reported. "She was a woman who would walk in the room, always smiling, always positive …" he said.

Investigation ongoing

No one was in custody as of Monday, Nov. 2, afternoon, the Tribune reported. Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington said investigators have general descriptions of the suspect or suspects, according to the Tribune.

McLean County Coroner Kathleen Yoder said Dettloff's cause of death was ruled as multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and pelvic region, according to NBC Chicago.

The GoFundMe campaign had surpassed 85% of its $115,000 goal as of Nov. 4.
