The College of DuPage Police Department will teach community members how to recognize and respond to a crisis at a free training session on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Glen Ellyn campus.

The class is free.

The 90-minute workshop, titled "Crisis Intervention: What YOU Need to Know," runs from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Berg Instructional Center, Room 2545, at 425 Fawell Blvd., according to a COD Police announcement. Registration is required but there is no cost to attend.

The session is open to anyone in the community, not just COD students or staff. According to the department's class listing, attendees will practice recognizing the signs of a crisis and learn response steps they can use at work or at home, whether the situation unfolds in person or in a virtual setting.

The training is part of a community safety class series run by the COD Police Department, which is led by Chief Kent Munsterman and staffed by 20 fully sworn officers on the Glen Ellyn campus. The department also hosted a fraud prevention class on July 24 as part of the same series.

COD Police also maintains a Behavioral Intervention Team on campus, reachable at (630) 942-2485 or [email protected], which provides support for individuals exhibiting concerning behavior. The crisis intervention training appears to extend that campus safety infrastructure into a public-facing resource for residents and workers across the Glenbard area.
