DuPage County taxpayers could be on the hook for nearly $491,000 to replace traffic signal heads with LED fixtures at intersections across the county.

The county's Transportation Committee, chaired by Mary Ozog, took up the contract at its Tuesday, Aug. 4 meeting. The committee agenda shows the $490,887.81 contract would go to H&H Electric Company, awarded per lowest responsible bid. The work covers "various locations within DuPage County," though the agenda does not name specific intersections or roads.

H&H Electric is an active signal contractor in the area. The Village of Addison's FY2026 budget lists an $85,000 traffic signal contract with the same firm.

IDOT partnership

The committee also considered a no-cost intergovernmental agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation to coordinate design, operation and maintenance of the county's Advanced Traffic Management System. The deal would carry no direct expense for county taxpayers, according to the agenda.

DuPage County already runs a Centracs ATMS platform. As of a 2020 conference presentation, the system covered 75 traffic signals, 17 cameras and 10 county highways in eight communities. The county's long-range goal: connect all roughly 1,000 signals countywide. The County Board approved a $41,505 annual maintenance contract for the Centracs software on June 9.

It is unclear whether the IDOT agreement represents a new partnership or a renewal of an existing arrangement.

Winter prep

The same agenda included $280,000 in snow plow equipment contracts for the 2026-27 season: $200,000 to Bonnell Inc. for carbide plow blades and curb shoes, and $80,000 to Monroe Truck Equipment Inc. for plow and spreader parts. Both run from Aug. 15, 2026 through July 31, 2027, purchased through the Sourcewell cooperative program.

Meeting minutes confirming the committee's votes have not been published. The items next go to the full DuPage County Board, which meets Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m.
