Two proposals that would each close a different elementary school go before Carol Stream families next week at a pair of public input sessions.

Community Consolidated School District 93 (CCSD93) will host identical Community Input Nights on Monday, Aug. 31, and Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Fountain View Recreation Center, 910 N. Gary Ave. in Carol Stream. The sessions are part of an ongoing boundary review driven by uneven class sizes and new housing developments expected to worsen enrollment imbalances across the PreK-8 district's six elementary schools.

Two boundary concepts are on the table. Concept 1 would retire Roy DeShane Elementary School at 475 Chippewa Trail in Carol Stream. Concept 2 would retire Elsie Johnson Elementary School at 1380 Nautilus Lane in Hanover Park.

Neither is final.

The district stressed in its Aug. 27 announcement that both concepts are being shared so community feedback can inform the Boundary Committee's continued work, not as recommendations.

The district said the review addresses disparities in class sizes, resources and access to specialists and programs across its schools. Planned housing developments within the community are expected to deepen those gaps in the years ahead.

Each evening opens with about 20 minutes of presentation, followed by open discussion with district administrators and school planning consultants from RSP & Associates. Spanish translators will be available at both sessions.

A Boundary Committee made up of parents, staff, administrators, Board of Education members, and representatives from local park districts and villages is guiding the process alongside RSP & Associates. Superintendent Dr. David H. Hill leads the district, which serves more than 3,300 students in portions of Carol Stream, Bloomingdale and Hanover Park.

The district described a community survey, available through RSP & Associates' boundary study webpage, as the primary and most effective way for families and community members to formally share feedback with the committee. The survey can be completed during or after the input nights.

A video recording of one session will be posted to the district's boundary review page after the events. The district said it will send a follow-up communication to families on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
