The Carol Stream Police Department spotlighted its Social Services Unit on Wednesday, Sept. 9, reminding residents the team provides free, confidential help as part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
The unit offers crisis intervention, short-term counseling, victim advocacy, case management and referrals to outside resources. Social workers are on call around the clock to assist patrol officers. Services are open to Carol Stream residents of all ages.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States and the 2nd leading cause among people ages 10 to 34, according to the CDC.
The Social Services Unit is on the second floor of the police department at 500 N. Gary Ave. Call (630) 871-6280.
