The Carol Stream Police Department will offer free car seat inspections and installations on Saturday, Sept. 26. Trained technicians from the department will check whether seats are properly secured and help with new installations, according to the Village of Carol Stream.

No registration is required. Parents and caregivers can stop by anytime during the event.

The check day falls on National Seat Check Saturday, the final day of Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs Sept. 20 through 26. The department's Traffic Unit and Social Services Unit are presenting the event, with sponsorship from the eKiwanis Club of Greater Chicago.

Illinois car seat law

Under Illinois law, children must ride in an appropriate car seat or booster seat until age 8 and remain rear-facing until at least age 2. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends keeping children in each stage of car seat use until they reach the height or weight limit set by the manufacturer.

The Carol Stream Police Department said in a September 2025 post on X that it is committed to keeping its youngest passengers safe. The department held a similar check day at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 250 N. Gary Ave., from 1 to 5 p.m. during Child Passenger Safety Week last year.

The village's 2026 announcement does not list a specific address or event hours for the Sept. 26 check day. A bilingual flyer for the event, in English and Spanish, is available on the Village of Carol Stream website.
