Carol Stream's Fall Fest is off.

The village announced Wednesday, Sept. 16, that it canceled the annual festival scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, at Ross Ferraro Town Center. The Car Show, kids' activities, food vendors and live music are all scrapped. The event will not be rescheduled this year.

A high likelihood of thunderstorms drove the decision, the village said in its notice, adding that it is prioritizing the safety of residents, vendors, partners and staff. The village said the cancellation followed internal discussion and consultation with event partners and vendors, and that because the outdoor festival involves so many participants, the call had to come earlier than officials would have preferred.

The village said it could not find a suitable alternative date.

Fall Fest had been planned to run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 960 N. Gary Ave. The Car Show, hosted by Double K Productions, was set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with 30 awards to be given out. Kids' activities including bounce houses, pumpkin carving, face painting and balloon making were scheduled from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Local band The Jolly Ringwalds had been booked to play from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Carol Stream Park District, Carol Stream Public Library and Carol Stream Police Department Social Services Unit had all planned activity tables at the event.

The village directed residents to its next community gathering: a free Water Reclamation Center Open House on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 245 Kuhn Road. The event will feature pumpkins, hayrides, Touch-A-Truck, facility tours and treats.

This will be the last WRC Open House for two years because of upcoming construction at the facility. Residents with questions can call Public Works at 630-871-6262.
