Lombard police wrote 110 seat belt and child safety seat citations during an 11-day Halloween traffic enforcement push that also netted one DUI arrest and five criminal arrests.

The campaign ran Oct. 23 through Nov. 2, according to the Village of Lombard. Officers increased patrols to identify impaired drivers and improve driver and passenger safety during the holiday period.

The Lombard Police Department released a full breakdown of the results:

  • 95 seat belt citations
  • 15 child safety seat citations
  • 16 speeding citations
  • 29 distracted driving citations for cellphone use
  • 13 other moving and non-moving violation citations
  • 4 traffic arrests for invalid, suspended or revoked licenses
  • 1 DUI arrest
  • 5 criminal arrests

Seat belt violations accounted for the bulk of the enforcement activity. Distracted driving citations ranked second at 29.

The announcement did not include details about the circumstances of the five criminal arrests.

The effort was part of Illinois' Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Drive High. Get a DUI. statewide campaigns. The Lombard Police Department joined agencies across Illinois in the coordinated enforcement push.

Federal highway safety grants administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation funded the campaign.

Before the operation began, Police Lt. Manny Camuy urged caution in an October statement reported by Lombard Community News. "With more children and families out in our neighborhoods, drivers need to slow down, pay attention and watch for pedestrians," Camuy said.
