Glenbard East football player Colton Schmidt earned the school's Athlete of the Week honor, the athletics department announced on X on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Tommy's Express Car Wash, which has a location on West North Avenue in Lombard, sponsors the weekly recognition.

The award arrives as the Rams carry momentum into the IHSA Class 7A state playoffs. Glenbard East closed its regular season at 6-3 after a 27-24 overtime win over South Elgin on Friday, Oct. 16, as first reported by the Daily Herald. Montii Perry intercepted South Elgin's Oliver Johnston on the first play of overtime, and Moises Velazquez kicked a 23-yard field goal that bounced through the crossbar to seal it.

Carter Pohlman threw for 239 yards, including a 64-yard pass to Mason Wright that set up a 34-yard tying field goal by Velazquez to force the extra session.

"We just needed an opportunity. We got an opportunity," head coach John Walters told the Daily Herald after the win. Walters said his players believe in the program and have been in tight spots before.

The Rams earned the No. 17 seed in Class 7A and will host No. 48 Bartlett in an opening-round game Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m., according to Chicago Sun-Times playoff pairings. A win would send Glenbard East to face No. 16 Kenwood in the first round.

All four Glenbard District 87 schools qualified for the postseason, as we reported Oct. 18.
