Glen Ellyn's Prism Market returns Saturday with 21 vendors

A free evening market with 21 vendors comes to Maplewood Public House in downtown Glen Ellyn on Saturday, Oct. 17. The Sweetest Night Prism Market runs from 5 to 9 p.m. at the brewery, 486 Pennsylvania Ave., with a Halloween-season theme woven through the fall shopping.

Streetz Artz Alliance, a Wheaton-based group that organizes artisan markets at area breweries, is hosting the event. Founder John Streetz listed the full vendor lineup on a Patch event page this week, describing the market as featuring "over 18 local artists, makers, and small businesses."

The actual roster runs to 21 names. Shoppers can browse jewelry, original artwork, candles, home décor, sweet treats, collectibles and other handmade items. Among the vendors: Linked by Liv Permanent Jewelry, author and artist Melanie Klegerman Fersko, Wanna Pickle Gourmet Foods, Special K's BeerCandles, Growing Panes Collective and Pigeon Brain Studios.

Admission is free and the market is open to all ages.

Streetz Artz Alliance has held several Prism Market events at Maplewood Public House this year. A September edition drew artists, makers, authors and collectors, with about 60 percent of participating vendors new to the venue, Shaw Local reported. An August edition tied its theme to National Cat Day.

The alliance is a small operation. Three curators balance the markets with day jobs and focus on a limited number of events, according to the group's website. The markets lean toward handmade goods but also welcome vintage items, vinyl records, comics and other finds.

Beverages are available for purchase at Maplewood Public House.
